Membership in the Lambda Alpha Anthropology National Honor Society is open to undergraduate students, currently enrolled, who have completed 12 hours of anthropology coursework, and who have an anthropoloy grade point average of 3.0 and a cumulative GPA at CSUF of 2.5; and to graduate students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Alumni of the CSUF Anthropology Department are also eligible to join the ETA Chapter. Applicants should fill out an application card; initial membership costs are currently $28.00, and subsequent yearly dues are $12.00.
Why join Lambda Alpha?
A number of students, currently members of Lambda Alpha and those considering membership often wonder WHY?? Aside from participating in cool activities, having a little "Greek" you can throw around on your resume and getting to wear both black and yellow at graduation; students often wonder if it gets any deeper than this. The answer is YES.
Lambda Alpha is a NATIONAL Honors Society that began in 1968 to help individual Universities promote academic excellence throughout their Anthropology Departments. Although the Society is set-up to assist individual chapters, students can compete on a National level, outside of their chapters; to become eligible for the Lambda Alpha National Dean's List Award (first through third place) and the National Lambda Alpha Scholarship Award. Last year's Scholarship recipient received a certificate, a check for $4,000.00, and a plaque. There are currently only 11 Lambda Alpha chapters in california (Alpha to Mu), with California State University Fullerton as the Eta chapter. University of California Irvine just joined last year as the Kappa chapter. So what all this means, is that not only are your chances of winning Scholarship and Dean's List Awards attainable but that membership in this society is truly noteworthy. Any of you that are considering "going for" your P.h.D., will undoubtedly want to mention your Lambda Alpha membership on your .
